Oceanside Transmission located just two blocks from the ocean in downtown Oceanside. We are a family owned and operated business. We have been providing full transmission service since 1984. We have 17 employees with over 200 years of combined transmission experience.
Around 40% of our customers don't need new transmissions, but rather minor repairs or their issue had nothing to do with their transmission. Other shops automatically rebuild your transmission no matter what is wrong with it.
Here is an example. Out of 536 customers:
Automatic: Service 260
Automatic: Minor Repair 146
Automatic: Problem Wasn't With The Transmission 130
We are automatic transmission troubleshooting experts. Many so-called automatic transmission problems are not transmission problems at all. A faulty computer chip, an intermittent "prndl" switch (park-reverse-neutral-drive-low), a leaking vacuum line, and many other seemingly unrelated problems might be diagnosed as a transmission problem by others.
We offer no-charge diagnosis while-you-wait. This saves our customers a lot of money. So often, people come to us thinking they have a transmission problem when they don't. Why risk a wrong diagnosis when getting it right from the experts is free?
If you do need automatic transmission work, our prices are extremely reasonable, the quality of our work is the highest, and our turnaround time surprises everyone except our repeat customers. An independent survey was taken of a random selection of 100 of our customers over the past year. The result was a 99.9% satisfaction rate. (The one person who said he wouldn't come back was satisfied with our work but had moved out of state and said he would use someone local if he needed more work).
Oceanside Transmission. Why consider a used transmission when you can get your transmission rebuilt economically with a nationwide warranty too? Because we have a huge inventory of rebuilt transmissions and automatic transmission parts, we can ship out of inventory, repair or rebuild transmissions fast.
I'm a single woman, 250 miles from home, and naturally fearful of being ripped off. My car was a bucking bronco with its transmission and check engine lights on, and I was stuck..Thank goodness I found Oceanside Transmission!!!!!!!
I'd loaned this car to my son who lives on base because he had sold his car before transferring to Japan soon. He needed a car to do his checking out and a sundry of other things and I had an extra car.
Oh my.. what to do. My son took the car Discount Transmissions and Axles in Oceanside. Thy pulled codes and quoted $850. I called them and was told no guarantees; if it re-coded, they could open the transmission and try something else; their diagnostic charge was $60. I called AAMCO and read off the codes; they quoted $1500-1800, no charge for diagnostic.
I stopped by Firestone on the base to see if they do any transmission work; they gave me the names of 2 places they send their cars to..one was Oceanside Transmission and that neither of the ones they refer to charge for diagnostic. What could I lose? I called and spoke with Cindy who would not give me a quote other than worst case scenario (replace transmission). Honestly, she was right! How can she quote to me?
So I drove the car down, manually changing gears. As I drove, I prayed, I cried.. what if it takes 3 days and they are off Thanksgiving week so it goes to the NEXT week? My son would then be off the base so I would have no place to stay. Timing was making me crazy, money was making me crazy.
Well, 2 hours or so later, Dennis came in with his paperwork and diagnosis on my car, saying he was done. I asked what was wrong with it and he said, "nothing". Wait.. I KNOW it was a bucking bronco.. I AM NOT A CRAZY OLD LADY!!
Dennis test-drove the car, felt the problem, and did whatever he does.. and cleared the codes!! When he drove it again, NOTHING WAS WRONG!!
REALLY??? Look.. they could have said.. "um.. yea, we found the problem and fixed it, and it's $500.. $200.." ANYTHING! and I'd have felt blessed and gladly paid! But no, THIS IS AN HONEST SHOP!! They charged me absolutely nothing!!!
It had been raining and I bought new wiper blades that were on the back seat, so he even installed those for me!! He gave me his cell# and asked that I call him on Sunday to let him know if everything was okay or not - either way!
Hugs all around!! What a great, honest bunch of people and business!! I bought breakfast for the moving family and was so elated! My trust in mankind was so restored!!
I took that car home, leaving my other car for my son to finish getting his life at Pendleton finished. I was afraid that it would break on him again. Nope! I have driven 400 miles, in stop and go local, and freeway traffic.. it's perfect! There IS nothing wrong!
I know this is wordy, but I can't say enough about this experience! I don't trust reviews because you never know how many friends and family write fake ones, but I never laid eyes on this place before last week! I wish I lived down there because honest shops are hard to come by, and in this economy? Thank you, Oceanside Transmission, with all my heart!! Jarheads, take your business to them! THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU ALL!
Update: It's Christmas eve, a month later, and the car is still perfect! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!
Update: It's still perfect :)
Update: It's 2017, the car's been perfect and I just sold it! I advise anyone to have the check-engine light to be reset and the car driven to see if it still codes before taking it to be repaired! It might be a glitch and only need a reset!!
We had a 2005 Mustang that had an intermittent transmission issue and had no idea where to start. Dennis was super helpful and accommodating. He ran us through their thought process and updated us throughout the diagnosis. The Mustang would stall randomly and would not "act up" during their normal test drive route. He offered to keep it over the weekend in order to test it himself. He was able to replicate the issue and validated our fear of continuing to drive it. They were able to figure out the issue and gave us a great price for the repair. I checked with a few other shops to check pricing, Oceanside Transmission was the most reasonable and did not try to offer other unnecessary add-ons. I would feel comfortable sending any friend or family member to Dennis and his team.
I recommend this shop to any and all!
First, I spoke with the receptionist, I believe her name was Shirley or Cindy?! She was very polite, patient and helpful.
Dennis is who helped me at the shop. He was patient with me, as I had many questions and concerns, not only on my transmission but other parts of the vehicle. He explained what he knew, and referred me to businesses if he didn't have an answer.
The waiting area is clean and coffee is provided. A can of coke will cost you a $1.00 though!!! Haha
Dennis went over the repair with me and explained the 3 yr, or 100,000 mile warranty. I'm happy to say that about a month later, the only concern is a slight delay in shift at times, which he says will go away as the computer remembers the shifting. I ended up saving roughly $500-700 by going to Oceanside Transmission. Thank you to the entire team.
It is such a pleasure to find people in the service industry that are so competent and have high integrity.
Thanks again, Oceanside Transmission!!
My 03 Honda Odyssey engine light came on which I thought was just because of not clicking the gas cap lid 3 times as decal states on fuel lid. I got gas, 20 minutes later, the light came on, so was almost certain this was cause.
Imagine my chagrin when I took to my service advisor that I trust, and still do, to hear that a transmission code registered and that was "kiss of death for the transmission. My vehicle only has 150k and been faithfully serviced since owning brand new.
The reason I am adding all these details is how devastated I was to think I might have to replace my Odyssey. I read many forums and found that this year was common for the code that registered as to why engine light came on.
Another part of all of this, is my Odyssey did not appear to have any problems in shifting or other evidence of failure.
I could not bear to part with my van until I was certain there was a problem. And if so, I would consider fixing rather than replacing.
Oceanside Transmission received such good reports, I thought they would be good candidates for checking it out for me.
From the moment I called and talked to Dennis, I knew it was the right decision. Bob helped me when I dropped the van off with great courtesy and professionalism. Dennis called me later that day and said they got the same code. They drove it 25 miles to see if there was any indication of transmission failure and they found none. They pulled the pan and checked parts and found nothing needed to be repaired. They re-set code and I am good to go.
I was ecstatic. I had been grieving over losing my van or having to buy another vehicle which I didn't know and didn't accommodate my life or needs. I am a senior so didn't want to go in debt for a minimum of 30k to get another vehicle like I have. I have owned my van for 13 years and never had issues with it, other than airbag recall, which was taken care of my dealer.
I worked in auto industry for over 36 years and understand when a vehicle is no longer worthy for repairs and not to get emotionally attached to it. But, to think, I might have gotten rid of my van or spent over 5k to replace it, I am so grateful to know otherwise. Oceanside Transmission is hard to beat. Can't praise them enough for their honesty and good customer service. I was astounded that they did not charge me for their inspection which in any shop in this industry, it is expected that you pay a diagnosis fee. They told me that if I have any problems whatsoever, to come back, and they would be able to help me.
From my vantage point, it is also noted, that Dennis talked to me with knowledge and respect and in language that was easy to understand, even if I hadn't been around cars, most women would feel safe in his care.
So, the honesty, knowledge, and service by Oceanside Transmission is a great comfort to me if ever need to have the transmission repaired or replace. I would come back to them in a heartbeat and not consider going anywhere else. Even if I lived 2 hours away, it would be worth it.
I wish they did full auto service and repair. Other shops could definitely benefit from Dennis's work ethic/business model.
